We sinners do beseech Thee to hear us; and grant that as we have heard this day in Thy house of prayer what our duty is, we may by Thy grace and help be enabled to accomplish it; We beseech Thee to hear us, O Lord.

Grant us the spirit of sanctification to banish from our hearts the spirit of the world and a disorderly life, the spirit of counsel in all difficulties, of direction in all doubts, of courage in all dangers, and of constancy in all persecutions;

We beseech Thee to hear us, O Lord.

That Thou wouldst give us the spirit of wisdom, conduct, and discretion, that in all our conversation we may be able to discern between hypocrisy and truth;

We beseech Thee to hear us, O Lord.

That Thou wouldst grant us the spirit of comfort in all trouble, in the times of sickness and in the hour of death, of entire submission to Thy holy will; the spirit of patience and thankfulness under all crosses and afflictions, whether of body or mind;

We beseech Thee to hear us, O Lord.

That Thou wouldst grant us the spirit of fear, love, and devotion towards Thee, of stedfast repose of mind in Thy care and providence, of justice and charity towards our neighbours, and of sobriety and abstinence towards ourselves;

We beseech Thee to hear us, O Lord.

That Thou wouldst give us the spirit of meekness and gentleness towards others, of forgiveness and love towards our enemies; and that Thou wouldst keep us from the evil spirit of pride, gluttony, uncleanness, of envy, anger, covetousness, and sloth; We beseech Thee to hear us, O Lord.

And grant that as Thou hast knit together the differing Gentile nations by the confession of Christ's name, so all they who are born again in the baptismal font may be one both in

the belief of their minds and in the piety of their actions; through Christ our Lord;

We beseech Thee to hear us, O Lord.

O Lord, graciously vouchsafe to hear us.

O Son of God, Redeemer of mankind, spare us, we beseech Thee, and have mercy upon us.

Then all say,

OUR Father, &c.

Here may be said the Prayer which is to be used when there has been Holy Communion (see Sunday Evening Prayers, page 22); and if Whit-Sunday happens to fall on the Feast of St. Barnabas, he here says the special Collect for that Festival (see Saints'-Day Morning Prayers).

Then he says the usual Sunday Evening Thanksgiving Prayer, as follows:

ALMIGHTY and eternal God, who hast appointed us six days in which we may labour and do all our work, and hast consecrated the seventh to Thyself, mercifully forgive the sins, the coldness, and neglect in worshipping Thee of which we have been guilty, and give us grace to avoid them for the future. Make us sensible, O Lord, of the daily blessings we receive from Thy bounty, especially the blessing of this happy day; that as we know Thee by faith we may love Thee by charity; and fixing all our hopes on the happiness of a future life, we may patiently suffer in submission to Thy holy will what Thou now permittest, and come at length to the joys of Thy heavenly kingdom; through our Lord Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

Then he says the two Collects and Prayer for a blessing, as in Sunday or Week-Day Evening Prayers (see pages 23, 74, 106).

WHIT MONDAY.

MORNING PRAYER.

All standing, the head of the family (or the priest or deacon, if present) says:

Then he says the following Psalm:

Then all kneeling, say the following Confession:
