LORD'S DAY EVENING.

O THOU High and Holy One, that inhabitest eternity, great art thou, and greatly to be feared; for thou art God alone, and besides thee there is none other: heaven and earth are full of the majesty of thy glory.

Teach us to reverence thee at all times, and to bow the knee before thee, with unfeigned humility.

How great is thy goodness in regarding such creatures as we are! How many and marvellous are thy blessings conferred upon us!

Lord, make us ashamed of the coldness and insensibility of our hearts, which have so little love to thee, notwithstanding all that thou hast done, and art continually doing, for us.

Stir up, we pray thee, our gratitude and love, that out of the fulness of the heart our tongues may speak thy praises, and be telling of thy salvation from day to day.

Blessed be thy name that we hear the joyful sound of the Gospel; that we were not born in a land of darkness, and the shadow of death.

Blessed be thy name that thou hast not left us, in hardness of heart, to pour contempt upon thy offered mercy: we humbly trust thou hast inclined the desires of our souls towards thee, and the knowledge of thy ways.

Increase, O Lord, these desires after thee; unite our hearts to love and fear thee, and direct our feet into the way of thy testimonies.

Grant that the words, which we have heard this day with our out

ward ears, may be grafted inwardly in our hearts. May the good seed of the word take deep root, and bring forth much fruit, to the glory of thy name, the comfort of our souls, and the credit of our Christian profession.

Pardon whatever thou hast seen amiss in our services; for iniquity cleaves even to our holy things. Enter not into judgment with us, but for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake do away our offences. Pardon the wandering of our thoughts, the levity of our minds, and the coldness of our hearts.

Pardon our unbelief, neglect, and contempt of thy word; and give us a heart to love and dread thee, and diligently to live after thy command

ments.

May thy blessing follow the labours of all thy faithful ministers, who have stood up in thy name this day may the seed they have sown be as bread cast upon the waters, which may be found after many days.

O let thy word run and be glorified; wherever it is preached, let its power and influence be felt let sinners be turned in abundance from the error of their ways, and thy saints grow in grace, and in the knowledge

of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Pity those who bear the Christian name, but are strangers to Christ, the hope of glory: Lord, shew them their danger, and bring them to true repentance.

Have compassion upon this kingdom and nation! We are indeed a

sinful people! O remember not our offences, nor the offences of our forefathers; but spare us, good Lord, and turn away from us those evils which we have most righteously deserved.

Hear the prayers which we have been this day offering up in behalf of our King, our countrymen, our friends, and our enemies: bless them all as they stand in need.

Accept the tribute of our thanks for the mercies of the past day: keep us this night from sin and danger; and be pleased, through life, to guide us by thy counsel, and finally to receive us to eternal glory, through Jesus Christ our Lord,

Our Father, &c.

The Grace of our Lord, &c.
