If it be the Feast of Holy
Innocents, Purification
or Annunciation of the
B. V. Mary, here say,

Infuse into our hearts a spirit of childlike humility and innocence, and of entire surrender of ourselves to Thee and Thy holy will.

Teach us to be submissive to our superiors, condescending to our inferiors, faithful to our friends, and charitable to our enemies;

We beseech Thee to hear us, O Lord. Give us strength to subdue our passions, overcome temptations, and acquire the virtues proper for our state; We beseech Thee to hear us, O Lord.

Assist us to follow Thy saints, in overcoming sensuality by mortification, avarice by almsdeeds, anger by meekness, and lukewarmness by devotion.

Enable us to follow their prudence in our undertakings, their courage in danger, their patience in affliction, and their meekness in prosperity.

Grant that, like them, we may be punctual at our devotions, temperate at our meals, diligent in our employments, and constant in good resolutions ;

We beseech Thee to hear us, O Lord.
And that Thou wouldst mercifully give us perseverance in
Thy grace and holy service, and unite us for ever to Thyself
with the blessed company of Thy saints and holy angels.

We beseech Thee to hear us, O Lord.
O Christ, Redeemer of the world, have mercy on us.
Jesus, model of meekness and humility;
Jesus, model of purity and innocence ;
Jesus, model of simplicity and truth,
Hear our prayers.
Jesus, pattern of meekness and gentleness;
Jesus, pattern of submission and obedience;
Jesus, pattern of charity and goodwill to men,
Graciously hear us, and have mercy upon us.

If it be the Feast of an Apostle,
Martyr, or Confessor, here say,

Then all say,

UR Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name,

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against

And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Here may be said the Prayer which is to be used when there

has been Holy Communion (see Sunday Evening Prayers, page 22). Then he says the Collect for the particular Festival celebrated (see Other Festival and Saints' Day Morning Prayers, pages 179-183); and on the Saints' Days which fall during the seasons of Advent or Lent, he here

says the Prayers which are to be used at those seasons. Then on all the Festivals, except those of Circumcision,

Epiphany, Purification, Annunciation, and St. Michael, he

here says the following Prayer: MOST COST gracious God, the author of sanctity and lover of

unity, whose wisdom hath established an admirable communion between the members of the same mystical body, whereof Thy Son Jesus Christ is head; we bless and praise Thy holy name for all Thy servants departed this life in Thy faith and fear. We celebrate with thankfulness the patient suffering and heroic devotion of Thy saints, who have glorified Thee in their lives and by their deaths, Grant, O Lord, that while we commemorate their noble deeds, and rejoice in the unspeakable happiness they now possess, we may ever remember that in their passage out of this world we are most certainly to follow them. Oh, give us grace to prepare for our last hour by a good life, that we may not be surprised by a sudden and unprovided death, but be ever watching that when Thou shalt call, we also may enter with the Bridegroom into eternal glory; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

But if it be the Feast of Purification, Annunciation, or St.

Michael, he says the following Prayer instead of the fore

going : O

ALMIGHTY God, who hast knit together Thine elect in

one communion and fellowship in the mystical Body of Thy Son, grant us grace so to follow the steps of Thy blessed saints, that we may finally attain unto Thy blissful heaven; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Then he says the following Thanksgiving Prayer: ALMIGHTY God, who observest all the actions, thoughts, and secret motions of our hearts, and who watchest over

us with an incomparable love, every moment bestowing favours and shielding us from evil, blessed be Thy holy name: and may all creatures bless Thy goodness for the benefits we have ever received from Thee, especially during this day; but, above all, for the surpassing riches of Thy mercy in creating and preserving, redeeming and sanctifying us. And Lord, we beseech Thee, never permit us to be so base and wicked as to repay Thy bounties with ingratitude, or Thy blessings with offences and injuries; but fill our hearts with a grateful spirit for Thy love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Then he says the two Collects following, and Prayer for a

blessing: VISIT ISIT, we beseech Thee, O Lord, this house and family,

drive far from it all snares of the enemy, and may Thy holy angels dwell therein to keep us in peace and safety through this night; for the sake of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

, Lord inspirations, and carry them on by Thy gracious assistance, that every prayer and work of ours may begin always from Thee, and by Thee may happily be ended; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

MAY the almighty and merciful Lord, Father, Son, and

Holy Ghost, bless us and keep us. Amen.

Then he says,

Then he reads the short chapter following : From the Holy Gospel according ter of Sion, Behold, thy King to St. Matthew.

Then he says the usual Sentences, Confession, Litany, fc.

(page 9), to the end of the Sunday Morning Prayers ; adding after the Lord's Prayer the following Collect :

Collect for Palm Sunday. GRANT, O Lord, we beseech Thee, that as on this day the

Jews went forth to meet Christ with palm branches in their hands, so we and all Thy faithful people may go forth to meet Him with good works, and by Him enter into eternal joy, who liveth and reigneth with the Father and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.
