Hebrews xi, 4. (P. M.)

1 FROM Egypt lately come,

Where death and darkness reign, We seek our new, our better home, Where we our rest shall gain. Hallelujah!

We are on our way to God!

2 There sin and sorrow cease,
And ev'ry conflict's o'er;
There we shall dwell in endless peace,
And never hunger more.
Hallelujah! &c.

3 There in celestial strains

Enraptur'd myriads sing;
There love in ev'ry bosom reigns,
For God himself is king.
Hallelujah! &c.

4 We soon shall join the throne,
Their pleasures we shall share ;
And sing the everlasting song,
With all the ransom'd there.
Hallelujah! &c.

Psalm cxviii, 24. (P. M.)

1 AGAIN returns the day of holy rest,

Which, when he made the world, Jehovah

blest;

When, like his own, he bade our labours

cease,

And all be piety, and all be peace.

2 Let us devote this consecrated day,
To learn his will, and all we learn, obey;
In pure religion's hallow'd duties share,
Unite in penitence and bend in pray'r.
3 So shall the God of mercy, pleas'd, receive
The only tribute man has pow'r to give;
So shall he hear, while fervently we raise
Our choral harmony in songs of praise.

4 Father of heav'n, in whom our hopes confide, Whose pow'r defends us, and whose precepts guide;

In life our guardian, and in death our friend, Glory supreme be thine, till time shall end!

Isaiah liii, 4. (7's.)

1 SURELY Christ our griefs hath borne,
Weeping soul no longer mourn ;
View him bleeding on the tree,
Pouring out his life for thee;
There thy ev'ry sin he bore,
Weeping souls lament no more.

2 Weary sinner, keep thine eyes
On th' atoning sacrifice;

There th' incarnate Deity

Number'd with transgressors see;

There his Father's absence mourns,

Nail'd and bruis'd and crown'd with thorns.

3 Cast thy guilty soul on him,
Find him mighty to redeem ;
At his feet thy burden lay,
Look thy doubts and fears away:
Now by faith the Son embrace,
Plead his promise, trust his grace.
4 Lord, thy arm must be reveal'd,
Ere I can by faith be heal'd;
Since I scarce can look to thee,
Cast a gracious eye on me;
At thy feet, myself I lay,

Shine, O shine, my fears away.

191 Psalm exxi, 4, and Hebrews i, 14. (P.M)

1 INSPIRER and hearer of pray'r,
Thou feeder and guardian of thine,
My all to thy covenant care,

I sleeping and waking resign;
If thou art my shield and my sun,
The night is no darkness to me,
And fast as my moments roll on,
They bring me but nearer to thee.

2 Thy minist'ring spirits descend,
To watch while thy saints are asleep,
By day and by night they attend,
The heirs of salvation to keep;
Bright seraphs, despatch'd from the throne,
Repair to the stations assign'd,
And angels elect are sent down,
To guard the elect of mankind.

3 Thy worship, no interval knows;
Their fervour is still on the wing;
And while they protect my repose,
They chaunt to the praise of my king;
I too, at the season ordain'd,

Their chorus for ever will join,
And love and adore without end,
Their faithful Creator, and mine.

1 Corinthians ii, 4. (7's. double.)

1 SOURCE of light and pow'r divine,
Deign upon thy truth to shine;
Lord, behold thy servant stands,
Lo, to thee, he lifts his hands:
Satisfy his soul's desire,
Touch his lip with holy fire!
Source of light and pow'r divine,
Deign upon thy truth to shine.

2 Breathe thy Spirit, so shall fall
Unction sweet upon us all;
Till by odours scatter'd round,
Christ himself be trac'd and found;
Then shall ev'ry raptur'd heart,
Rich in peace and joy, depart:
Source of light and pow'r divine,
Deign upon thy truth to shine.

Hebrews vi, 19. (s.M.)

1 YOUR harps, ye trembling saints, Down from the willows take; Loud to the praise of love divine, Bid ev'ry string awake.

2

Tho' in a foreign land,
We are not far from home,
And nearer to our house above,
We ev'ry moment come.

3 His grace will to the end,
Stronger and brighter shine;

4

5

Nor present things, nor things to come,
Shall quench the spark divine.

Fasten'd within the veil,
Hope be your anchor strong;
His loving Spirit the sweet gale,
That wafts you smooth along.

Or should the surges rise,

And peace delay to come;

Blest is the sorrow, kind the storm,

That drives us nearer home.

6

Blest is the man, O God,

That stays himself on thee!

Who wait for thy salvation, Lord,

Shall thy salvation see.
