Romans viii, 16. (P. M.)

1 EARNEST of future bliss,
Thee, Holy Ghost, we hail;
Fountain of holiness,

Whose comforts never fail,

The cleansing gift on saints bestow'd,
The witness of their peace with God.

2 What wond'rous grace is this,
For God to dwell with men ;
Through Jesus' righteousness,
His favour we regain,

And feeble worms, by nature lost,
Are temples of the Holy Ghost!

3 By thee on earth we know
Ourselves in Christ renew'd,
Brought by thy grace into
The family of God:
Of his adopting love the seal,
And faithful teacher of his will.

4 Great Comforter, descend
In gentle breathings down,
Preserve us to the end,

That no man take our crown :
Our guardian still vouchsafe to be,
Nor suffer us to go from thee.

2 Timothy i, 9. (c. M.)

1 HOW vast the benefits divine,
Which we in Christ possess;
Sav'd from the guilt of sin we are,
And call'd to holiness.

2 But not for works which we have done,
Or shall hereafter do,

Hath God decreed on sinful worms,
Salvation to bestow.

3 Our glorious surety undertook
To satisfy for man;

And grace was giv'n us in him,
Before the world began.

4 Not one of all the chosen race,
But shall to heav'n attain;
Partake on earth the promis'd grace,
And then with Jesus reign.

5 Of Father, Son, and Spirit, we
Extol the threefold care,

Whose love, whose merit, and whose pow'r
Unite to lift us there!

Isaiah ix, 6. (7's.)

1 BRIGHT and joyful is the morn,

For to us a child is born;

From the highest realms of heav'n,
Unto us a son is giv'n.

2 On his shoulder, he shall bear,
Pow'r and majesty, and wear
On his vesture, on his thigh,
Names most awful, names most high.

3 Wonderful in counsel he,

The incarnate Deity;

Sire of ages ne'er to cease,
King of kings, and Prince of Peace.

4 Come and worship at his feet,
Yield to Christ the homage meet;
From his manger to his throne,
Homage due to God alone.

Luke , 10. (P. M.)

1 ANGELS from the realms of glory,
Wing your flight o'er all the earth;
Ye, who sang creation's story,
Now proclaim Messiah's birth:
Come and worship,

Worship Christ, the new-born King.

2 Shepherds, in the field abiding,

Watching o'er your flocks by night, God with man is now residing, Yonder shines the infant light: Come and worship,

Worship Christ, the new-born King.

3 Saints, before the altar bending,
Watching long, in hope and fear,
Suddenly the Lord descending,
In his temple shall appear:
Come and worship,

Worship Christ, the new-born King.

4 Sinners, wrung with true repentance, Doom'd for guilt to endless pains, Justice now revokes the sentence,

Mercy calls

you, break your chains:

Come and worship,

Worship Christ, the new-born King.

Zechariah xiii, 1. (P. M.)

1 COME to Calvary's holy mountain,
Sinners ruin'd by the fall,
Here a pure and healing fountain
Flows to you, to me, to all:
In a full perpetual tide,
Open'd when our Saviour died.

2 Come in sorrow and contrition,
Wounded, impotent, and blind,
Here the guilty, free remission,
Here the troubled, peace may find:
Health this fountain will restore,
He that drinks, shall thirst no more.

Philippians ii, 9. (P. M.)

PART I.

JOIN all the glorious names
Of wisdom, love and pow'r,
That ever mortals knew,
That angels ever bore;

All are too mean to speak his worth,
Too mean to set my Saviour forth.
2 Array'd in mortal flesh,

3

He, like an angel stands,
And holds the promises

And pardons in his hands;

Commission'd from his Father's throne,
To make his grace to mortals known.
Great Prophet of my God,

My tongue would bless thy name,
By thee the joyful news

Of our salvation came;

The joyful news of sins forgiv'n,

Of hell subdued and peace with heav'n.

Isaiah xl, 11. (P. M.)

PART II.

I LOVE my Shepherd's voice,
His watchful eye shall keep
My wand'ring soul among

The thousands of his sheep;

He feeds his flock, he calls their names, His bosom bears the tender lambs.
