Thee in thy glorious realm they praise,

And bow before thy throne;
We in the kingdom of thy grace,

The kingdoms are but one.
The holy to the holiest leads,

From thence our spirits rise,
And he that in thy statutes treads,
Shall meet thee in the skies.

HYMN 238. 78. D.

The privileges of Christians.
BLESSED are the sons of God,
Bought with the Redeemer's blood;
They are ransom'd from the grave,
Life eternal they shall have :
All their sins are wash'd away,
They shall stand in God's great day,
With them number'd may we be,
Here and in eternity.
They produce the fruits of grace,
In the works of righteousness ;
They are lights upon the earth,
Children of a heavenly birth ;
One with God, with Jesus one,
Glory is in them begun;
With them number'd may we be,
Here and in eternity.
Though they suffer upon earth,
Strangers to forbidden mirth,
Yet they have an inward joy,
Pleasures that can never cloy;
They alone are truly blest,
Heirs with God, joint-heirs with Christ :
With them number'd may we be,
Here and in eternity.

HYMN 239. C.M.

The communion of saints.
THE saints on earth and those above,

But one communion make;
Join'd to their Lord in bonds of love,

All of his grace partake.
One family, we dwell in him,

One church, above, beneath ;
Though now divided by the stream,

The narrow stream of death.
One army of the living God,

To his command we bow;
Part of the host have cross'd the flood,

And part are crossing now.
Lo! thousands to their endless home

Are swiftly borne away;
And we are to the margin come,

And soon must launch as they.
Lord Jesus, be our constant guide ;

Then, when the word is given,
Bid death's cold flood its waves divide,
And land us safe in heaven.

HYMN 240. 8. M.

Preserving mercy.
TO God, the only wise,

Our Saviour and our King,
Let all the saints below the skies

Their humble praises bring.
'Tis his almighty love,

His counsel and his care,
Preserves us safe from sin and death,

And every hurtful snare.

He will present our souls,

Unblemish'd and complete, Before the glory of his face,

With joys divinely great. Then all the chosen seed

Shall meet around the throne, Shall bless the conduct of his grace,

And make his wonders known. To our Redeemer God

Wisdom with power belongs, Immortal crowns of majasty,

And everlasting songs.

HYMN 241. L. M.

Preparation for heaven. HEAVEN is a place of rest from sin, But all who hope to enter there, Must here that holy course begin, Which shall their souls for rest prepare. Clean hearts, O God, in us create, Right spirits, Lord, in us renew: Commence we now that higher state, Now do thy will as angels do. Thy living temples may we be, Cleans'd by thy hallowing presence, Lord! Abide in us, and we in thee, Supremely lov’d, obey'd, ador’d. In Jesus' footsteps may we tread, Learn every lesson of his love ; And be from grace to glory led, From heaven below, to heaven above.

IIYMN 242. c. m

Walking with God.
ETERNAL God, our souls admire

Thy condescending grace;
That thou wilt walk, that thou wilt dwell

With Adan's sinful race.
Cheer'd with thy converse I can trace

The desert with delight;
Through all the gloom one smile of thine

Can dissipate the night.
Nor shall I through eternal days .

A restless pilgrim roam ;
The hand that now directs my course

Shall soon convey me home.
I ask not Enoch's rapturous flight

To realms of heavenly day;
Nor seek Elijah's car of fire

To bear my flesh away :
Joyful my spirit will consent

To drop its mortal load,
And hail the sharpest pangs of deatn
That break its way to God.

HYMN 243. C. M.
The hope of heaven our support under trials.
WHEN I can read my title clear

To mansions in the skies,
I bid farewell to every fear,

And wipe my weeping eyes.
Should earth against my soul engage,

And fiery darts be hurl'd,
Then I can smile at Satan's rage,

And face a frowning world.

Let cares like a wild deluge come,

And storms of sorrow fall,
May I but safely reach my home,

My God, my heaven, my all.
With Jesus there my weary soul

Shall find eternal rest,
And not a wave of trouble roll
Across my peaceful breast.

HYMN 244. C. m.
Hope of heaven by the resurrection of Christ.
BLESS'D be the everlasting God,

The Father of our Lord;
Be his abounding mercy praisd;

His majesty ador'd.
When from the dead he rais'd his Son,

And call’d him to the sky,
He gave our souls a lively hope

That they should never die.
What though our inbred sins require

Our flesh to see the dust,
Yet as the Lord our Saviour rose,

So all his followers must.
There's an inheritance divine

Reserv'd against that day
'Tis incorrupted, undefil'd,

And fadeth not away.
Saints by the power of God are kept,

Till their salvation come;
We walk by faith as strangers here,

Till Christ shall call us home.
