OW after the Death of Mofes the Servant of the LORD, it came to pass, that the LORD fpake unto Joshua the Son of Nun, Mofes's Minifter, faying,

2 Mofes my Servant is dead; now therefore, arife, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this People, unto the Land which I do give to them, even to

the Children of Ifrael.

3 Every Place that the Sole of your Foot fhall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I faid unto Mofes.

4 From the Wildernefs, and this Lebanon, even unto the great River, the River Euphrates, all the Land of the Hittites, and unto the great Sea, toward the going down of the Sun, fhall be your Coast.

P Heb. xiii. Let your Converfation be without Covetoufnefs; and

be content with fuch Things as ye have: for he hath faid, I will NEVER LEAVE thee, nor FORSAKE thee.

5 P There fhall not any Man be able to ftand before thee all the Days of thy Life: as I was with Mofes, fo I will be with thee: I will not FAIL thee, nor FORSAKE thee.

6 Be ftrong and of a good Courage: for unto this Pcople fhalt thou divide for an Inheritance the Land which I fware unto their Fathers to give them.

7 4 Only be thou STRONG and very COURAGIOUS, that thou mayeft obferve to do according to all the LAW which Mofes my Servant commanded thee turn not from it to the Right Hand or to the Left, that thou mayeft PROSPER whitherfoever thou goeft.

Ifa. xli. 10 FEAR thou NOT, for I am with thee; be NOT DISMAYED, for I AM thy GOD: I will STRENGTHEN thee, yea, I will HELP thee, yea, I will UPHOLD thee with the Right Hand of my RIGHTEOUSNESS.

8*This Book of the LAW fhall not depart out of thy Mouth, but thou fhalt MEDITATE therein DAY and NIGHT, that thou mayeft obferve to do according to all that is written therein for then thou shalt make thy Way PROSPEROUS, and then thou fhalt have good SUCCESS.

9 Have not I commanded thee? Be ftrong and of a good Courage, be not AFRAID, neither be thou DISMAYED: for the LORD thy GOD is with thee, whitherfoever thou goeft.

10 Then Joshua commanded the Officers of the People, fying,

11 Pafs through the Hoft, and command the People, faying, Prepare you Victuals; for within three Days ye fhall país over this Jordan, to go in to poffefs the Land which the LORD your God giveth you to poffefs it.

Rahab receiveth and concealeth the two Spies fent from Shittim: 8 The Covenant between her and them: Return and Relation.

Ver. 1 ND Joshua fent two Men to spy fecretly, faying, A Go view the Land, even Jericho and they went, and came into an Harlot's Houfe, named Rahab, and lodged there.

2 And it was told the King of Jericho, faying, Behold, there came in Men hither To-night of the Children of Ifrael, to fearch out the Country.

3 And the King of Jericho fent unto Rahab, faying, Bring forth the Men that are come to thee, which are entred into thine House: for they be come to fearch out all the Country.

4 And the Woman took the two Men, and hid them, and faid thus, There came Men unto me, but I wift not whence they were.

5 And it came to pafs about the time of fhutting of the Gate, when it was dark, that the Men went out: whither the Men went, I wat not: purfue after them quickly, for ye fhall overtake them.

6 But fhe had brought them up to the Roof of the House, and hid them with the Stalks of Flax, which she had laid in order upon the Roof.

7 And the Men purfued after them the Way to Jordan, unto the Fords: and as foon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they fhut the Gate.

8 And before they were laid down, fhe came up unto them upon the Roof;

And she said unto the Men, I know that the LORD

11 And as foon as we had heard thefe Things, our Hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more Courage in any Man, because of you: for the LORD your Gon, he is GOD in Heaven above, and in the Earth beneath :

12 Now therefore, I pray you, fwear unto me by the LORD, fince I have fhewed you Kindness, that ye will also hew Kindness unto my Father's House; and give me a true Token:

13 And that ye will fave alive my FATHER, and my MOTHER, and my BRETHREN, and my SISTERS, and all that they have, and deliver our Lives from Death.

14 And the Men anfwered her, Our Life for yours, if ye utter not this our Bufinefs. And it fhall be when the LORD hath given us the Land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.

15 Then the let them down by a Cord through the Window for her Houfe was upon the Town-wall, and she dwelt upon the Wall.

16 And fhe faid unto them, Get you to the Mountain, left the Pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three Days, until the Purfuers be returned and afterward may ye go your way.

17 And the Men faid unto her, We will be blameless of this thine Oath which thou haft made us fwear.

18 Behold, when we come into the Land, thou shalt bind this Line of fcarlet Thread in the Window which thou didft let us down by: and thou fhalt bring thy Father, and thy Mother, and thy Brethren, and all thy Father's Houfhold home unto thee.

19 And it fhall be, that whofoever fhall go out of the Doors of thy Houfe into the Street, his Blood fhall be upon his Head, and we will be guiltlefs and whofoever shall be with thee in the Houfe, his Blood fhall be on our Head, if any Hand be upon him.

20 And if thou utter this our Bufinefs, then we will be quit of thine Oath which thou haft made us to swear.

21 And the faid, According to your Words, fo be it. And the fent them away, and they departed: and fhe bound the fcarlet Line in the Window.

22 And they went, and came unto the Mountain, and abode there three Days, until the Purfuers were returned. And the Purfuers fought them throughout all the Way, but found them not,
