L. M.
Living to serve the cause of Christ.
MY I right

To every service I can pay,
And call it iny supreme delight

To hear thy dictates, and obey.
2 What is my being but for thee,

Its sure support, its noblest end!
'Tis my delight thy face to see,

And serve the cause of such a Friend, 3 I would not sigh for worldly joy,

Or to increase niy worldly good;
Nor future days nor powers employ

To spread a sounding name abroad.
4 'Tis to my Saviour I would live-

To him who for my ranson died;
Nor could all worldly honour give

Such bliss as crowns me at his side.
6 His work my hoary age shall bless,

When youtbful vigour is no more;
And my last hour of life confess

His saving love, his glorious power.

4th P. M. 886, 886.
Looking unto Jesus.
RE there not in the labourer's day

Twelve hours, in which he safely may
His calling's work pursue !
Though sin and Satan still are near,
Nor sin nor Satan can I fear,

With Jesus in my view.
2 Light of the world! thy beams I bless;
On thee, bright Sun of righteousness,

My faith bath fix'd its eye:
Guided by thee, through all I go,
Nor fear the ruin spread below,

For thoa art always nigh.

S. M.

8 Ten thousand snares my paths beset,
Yet will I, Lord, the work complete,

Which thou to me hast given;
Regardless of the pains I feel,
Close by the gates of death and hell,

I urge my way to heaven. 819

Strengthen the weak hands. THOU seest our weakness, Lord;

Our hearts are known to thee; o lift thou up the sinking hand,

Confirm the feeble knee. 2 Let us in life, in death,

Thy steadfast truth declare;
And publish, with our latest breath,

Thy love and guardian care. 820

2d P. M. 6 lines &
The image of the heavenly.
ORD over all, sent to fulfil
Thy gracious Father's sov'reign will,
To thy dread sceptre will I bow;
With duteous rev'rence at thy feet,
Like humble Mary, lo! I sit;

Speak, Lord, thy servant henreth now. 2 The world, sin, death, oppose in vain; Thou, by thy dying, death hast slain,

My great Deliv'rer, and my God!
In vain does the old dragon ruge;
In vain all hell its powers engage

None can withstand thy conqu'ring blood. 8 Renew thine inage, Lord, in me; Lowly and gentle may I be;

No charms but these to thee are dear;
No anger may'st thou ever find,
No pride in my unruffled mind,

But faith and heaven-born peace be there.

4 A patient, a victorious mind,
That life and all things casts behind,

Springs forth obedient to thy call;
A heart that no desire can move,
But still to adore, believe, and love,

Give me, my Lord, my life, my all!

L. M, The all-sufficient Portion. 0

LOVE, thy sov'reign aid impart,

And guard the gift thyself hast given: My portion, thou, niy treasure art,

My life, and happiness, and heaven.
2 Would aught on earth my wishes share !

Though dear as life the idol be,
The idol from my breast I'll tear,

Resolved to seek my all in thee.
3 Whate'er I fondly counted mine,

To thee, my Lord, I here restore;
Gladly I all to thee resign;

Give me thyself, I ask no more.

1st P. M. 6 lines 8s.

TATCH'D by the world's malignant eye,

Who load us with reproach and shame,
As servants of the Lord most high,

As zealous for his glorious Name,
We ought in all his paths to move
With holy fear and humble love.
2 That wisdom, Lord, on ns bestow,

From every evil to depart;
To stop the mouth of every foe,

While, upright both in life and heart,
The proofs of godly fear we give,
And show them how the Christians live.

1st P. M. 6 lines 88. Pressing toward the mark. THANK thee, increated Sun,

That thy bright beams on me have shined;
I thank thee, who hast overthrown

My toes, and heal'd my wounded mind;
I thank thee, whose enlivening voice
Bids my freed heart in thee rejoice.
y Uphold me in the doubtful race,

Nor suffer me again to stray:
Strengthen my feet, with steady pace

Still to press forward in thy way; My soul and Nesli, O Lord of might, Fill, satinte, with thy heavenly light. 3 Give to mine eyes refreshing tears;

Give to my heart chaste, hallow'd fres;
Give to my soul, with fili: fenrs,

The love that all beaven's host inspires,
That all my powers with all their might,
In thy sole glory may unite.
4 Thee will I love, my joy, my crown;

Thee will I love, my Lord, my God;
Thee will I love, beneath thy frown

Or smile, thy sceptre or thy rod.
What though my flesh and heart decay;
Thee shall I love in endless day.

5th P. M. 4 linea Ts.

Christ liveth in me.
OVING Jesus, gentle Lamb,

In thy gracious hands I am;
Make me, Saviour, what thou art;
Live thyself within my heart.
2 I shall then show forth thy praise;
Serve thee all my happy days;
Then the world shall Always see
Christ the holy child in mo.

Evermore give us this bread.
ATHER, supply my every need!;

O grant the never-failing bread,

The manna that comes down from heaven 2 The gracious fruits of righteousness,

Thy blessings' unexhausted store,
In me abundantly increase,

Nor ever let me hunger more.
