Fain would I sound it out so loud,
That earth and heav'n might hear.
2 Yes: thou art precious to my soul,
My transport and my trust;
Jewels, to thee, are gaudy toys,
And gold is sordid dust.

3 All my capacious pow'rs can wish,
In thee most richly meet;
Nor to my eyes is light so dear,
Nor friendship half so sweet.

4 O may thy grace still cheer my heart,
And shed its fragrance there!
The noblest balm of all its wounds,
The cordial of its care.

5 I'll speak the honours of thy name
With my last lab'ring breath;
When speechless, clasp thee in my arms;
My joy in life and death.

Hymn 59. L. M.

A Prayer.

E with me, Lord, where'er I go;

Teach me what thou would'st have me do;

Suggest whate'er I think or say;

Direct me in the narrow way.

2 Prevent me lest I harbour pride;
Lest I in my own strength confide:
Show me my weakness, let me see
I have my pow'r, my all from thee.

3 Yah te wa ge shats tenh s'ra yen,

3 Enrich me alway with thy love;
My kind protection ever prove;
Thy signet put upon my breast,
And let thy spirit on me rest.
4 Assist and teach me how to pray;
Incline my nature to obey;

What thou abhor'st, that let me flee,
And only love what pleases thee.

50 may I never do

my will,
But thine and only thine fulfil;
Let all my time and all my ways
Be spent and ended in thy praise.

Hymn 60. S. M.

Christian Unity.

party names no more
The Christian world o'erspread:

Gentile and Jew, and bond and free,
Are one in Christ their head.

Among the saints on earth

Let mutual love be found:

Heirs of the same inheritance,

With mutual blessings crown'd.

Let envy and ill will

Be banished far away:

Those should in strictest friendship dwell

Who the same Lord obey.

Thus will the church below

Resemble that above,

Hymn 61. C. M.
Victory over Death.

FOR an overcoming faith
To cheer my dying hours,

To triumph o'er the monster Death,
And all his frightful pow'rs.
2 Joyful, with all the strength I have
My quiv'ring lips should sing,
"Where is thy boasted vict'ry Grave!
"And where the monster's sting?"

3 If sin be pardon'd I'm secure;
Death has no sting beside;
The law gives sin its damning pow'r ;
But Christ, my ransom, dy'd.

4 Now to the God of victory

Immortal thanks be paid,

Who makes us conquerers while we die,
Through Christ our living head.

Hymn 62. L. M.

For a Minister.

ITH all thy pow'r, O Lord, defend
Him whom we now

to thee commend ;

Our faithful minister secure,
And make him to the end endure.
Gird him with all-sufficient grace;
Give to his footsteps paths of peace;
