3 O glorious hour! O blest abode !
I shall be near and like my God!
And flesh and sin no more controul
The sacred pleasures of the soul.

4 My flesh shall slumber in the ground,
Till the last trumpet's joyful sound;
Then burst the chains, with sweet surprise,
And in my Saviour's image rise.

PSALM XVIII. (L. M.)

1 NO change of times shall ever shock
My firm affection, Lord, to thee;
For thou hast always been my rock,
A fortress and defence to me.

2 Thou my deliv'rer art, my God,

My trust is in thy mighty pow'r;
Thou art my shield from foes abroad,
At home my safeguard and my tow'r.

3 Let the eternal Lord be prais'd,

The rock on whose defence I rest:
O'er highest heav'ns his name be rais'd,
Who me with his salvation blest.

4 Therefore, to celebrate his fame,

My grateful voice to heav'n I'll raise:
And nations, strangers to his name,
Shall thus be taught to sing his praise.

PSALM XIX. (c. M.)

1 THE heav'ns declare thy glory, Lord,
Which that alone can fill;
The firmament and stars express
Their great Creator's skill.

2 The dawn of each returning day

Fresh beams of knowledge brings; And from the dark returns of night, Divine instruction springs.

3 Their pow'rful language to no realm, Or region is confin'd;

'Tis nature's voice, and understood
Alike by all mankind.

4 Their doctrine does its sacred sense,
Through earth's extent display;
Whose bright contents the circling sun
Does round the world convey.

PSALM XIX. (L. M. D.)

1 THE spacious firmament on high,
With all the blue etherial sky,
And spangled heav'ns, a shining frame,
Their great Original proclaim.
Th' unwearied sun from day to day
Doth his Creator's pow'r display,
And publisheth to every land,
The work of an Almighty hand.

2 Soon as the ev'ning shades prevail, The moon takes up the wondrous tale, And nightly to the list'ning earth, Repeats the story of her birth;

Whilst all the stars that round her burn, And all the planets in their turn, Confirm the tidings as they roll,

And spread the truth from pole to pole. 3 What, though in solemn silence all Move round the dark terrestrial ball; What, though no real voice or sound, Amid their radiant orbs be found; In reason's ear they all rejoice, And utter forth a glorious voice; For ever singing, as they shine, "The hand that made us is divine."

PSALM XX. (L. M.)

1 NOW may the God of power and grace Attend his people's humble cry! Jehovah hears when Israel prays, And brings deliverance from on high. 2 The name of Jacob's God defends, Better than shields or brazen walls; He from his sanctuary sends

Succour and strength, when Zion calls. 3 Well he remembers all our sighs, His love exceeds our best deserts; His love accepts the sacrifice

Of humble groans and broken hearts.

4 Some trust in horses train'd for war, And some of chariots make their boast; Our surest expectations are

From thee, the Lord of heavenly hosts.

5 Now save us, Lord, from slavish fear,
Now let our hopes be firm and strong,
Till thy salvation shall appear,
And joy and triumph raise the song.

PSALM XXIII. (L. M. 6's.)

1 THE Lord my pasture shall prepare,
And feed me with a Shepherd's care ;
His presence shall my wants supply,
And guard me with a watchful eye ;
My noonday walks he shall attend,
And all my midnight hours defend.
2 When in the sultry glebe I faint,
Or on the thirsty mountain pant,
To fertile vales and dewy meads,
My weary wand'ring steps he leads;
Where peaceful rivers, soft and slow,
Amid the verdant landscape flow.

3 Though in the paths of death I tread,
With gloomy horrors overspread,
My stedfast heart shall fear no ill,
For thou, O Lord, art with me still:
Thy friendly crook shall give me aid,
And guide me through the dreadful shade.

4 Though, in a bare and rugged way,
Through devious lonely wilds I stray,
Thy bounty shall my pains beguile;
The barren wilderness shall smile,
With sudden greens and herbage crown'd,
And streams shall murmur all around.

PSALM XXIV. (c. M.)

1 ERECT your heads, eternal gates,
Unfold to entertain

The King of glory; see, he
With his celestial train.

comes

2 Who is the King of glory? who?
The Lord for strength renown'd;
In battle mighty, o'er his foes
Eternal victor crown'd.

3 Erect your heads, ye gates, unfold
In state to entertain

The King of glory; see, he comes
With all his shining train.

4 Who is the King of glory? who?
The Lord of hosts renown'd;

Of glory he alone is King,
Who is with glory crown'd.
