2 There is a goodly heritage, The meek that haven gain ; May feast, nor crave again. The means Thy love hath given : To life and bliss in heav'n. 203. Imputed Righteousness. L.M. JESUS, Thy blood and righteousness My beauty are, my glorious dress; 'Midst flaming worlds in these array'd, With joy shall I lift up my head. When ruin'd nature sinks in years; The robe of Christ is ever new. . To take my mansion in the skies ; Jesus hath liv'd and died for me ! Bid, Lord, Thy banished ones rejoice ; Jesus the Lord our righteousness. To take this stubborn stone away; an And thaw with beams of love divine, This heart, this frozen heart of mine. 2 The rocks can rend, the earth can quake, The seas can roar, the mountains shake ; Of feeling all things show some sign, But this unfeeling heart of mine. 3 Thy judgments, too, unmov'd I hear, (Amazing thought!) which devils fear : Goodness and wrath in vain combine, To stir this stupid heart of mine! 4 Eternal Spirit, mighty God! Do thou apply the Saviour's blood ! 205. Ephes. V. 16. SEE the leaves around us falling, Dry and wither'd, to the ground; With a sad and solemn sound ; 2 Sons of Adam (once in Eden, Where like us he blighted fell) Hear the lesson we are reading; Mark the awful truth we tell. 3 Ye on length of days presuming, Who the paths of pleasure tread, View us, late in beauty blooming, Numbered now among the dead. 4 On the tree of life eternal Oh let all our hopes be laid : Bears a leaf that shall not fade. THOUGH I an angel's harp employed, And sang in seraph's strain ; Unravelling mysteries rare ; With all my goods I part ; How cold and dead my heart ! To rankle in the mind ! Is merciful, and kind ! 5 Faith leads the way; while Hope bestows Bright beams of comfort here ! Its glad and blest career ! Which wrought with heavenly grace, To save our sinful race ! Redeeming Love, Thy praise ! 207. The promised Land. C.M. FAR from these narrow scenes of night, Unbounded glories rise, And realms of infinite delight, Unknown to mortal eyes. 2 There pain and sickness never come, And grief no more complains ; Health triumphs in immortal bloom, And endless pleasure reigns. 3 No cloud those blissful regions know, . For ever bright and fair ; Can never enter there. Our hearts with ardent love, Bear every thought above. For Thy bright courts on high ; The chorus of the sky. 208. Prayer for the Jews. L.M. OH why should Israel's sons once blest, Still roam the scorning world around ; Disown'd of heav'n, by man opprest, Outcasts from Sion's hallow'd ground ? 2 O God of Israel, rend in twain The veil which hides their Shiloh's light ; 3 While Judah views his birthright gone, With contrite shame his bosom move, The Lord he crucified, to love. When Jew, and Greek, one prayer shall raise, With eager feet one temple throng, One God with mutual rapture praise. 209. The Saviour's Invitation. THE Saviour calls, let every ear Hope smiles reviving round. 2 For every thirsty longing heart, Here streams of bounty flow, To banish mortal woe. The gracious call obey ; Mercy invites to heavenly joys, And can you yet delay ? To Thee let sinners fly, And drink, and never die. 210. Retirement. C.M. TAR from the world, O Lord, I fee, From strife and tumult far ; His most successful war. |
