Exalt the truth for Jesu's sake, 2 Salvation's banner, Christians, hold, 3 Let every realm that token see Of Heaven's transcendent grace, 4 Tell north, and south, and east, and west, 5 And whilst we for the faith contend, 6 Till distant tribes-from shore to shore, THE CROWNED LORD OF ALL! 279. November 5th, for our Country. L.M. WHILE Britain, favoured of the skies, Recals the wonders God hath wrought, Let grateful joy adoring rise, And warm to rapture every thought. 2 When wicked men combined their power, And doomed these isles their certain prey, Thy hand forbad the fatal hour; Their evil plots in ruin lay. 3 Again our restless cruel foes Resum'd, avow'd, a fresh design; Again to save us God arose, And Britain owns the hand divine. 4 Such great deliv'rance God has wrought; 280. "The Heavens declare the glory P.M. THE heavens are telling the glory and might Of their King and Creator, the Father of light, And the stars, as they sparkle, in silence proclaim All honour and majesty to His great name! 2 The earth as it rolls in its circuit thro' space, The bright moon encircles, attending its race; Whilst far-gleaming worlds, in deep regions unknown, The presence and power of Omnipotence own! 3 The sun in the firmament scatters his rays Of brightness and lustre, thro' ne'er-ending days, And causeth the whole earth with beauty to shine Declaring its Maker for ever divine! 4 May Jesus, the Sun of all righteousness, pour The beams of His mercy on each distant shore, Till all the world know His rich love and decrees As waters e'en cover the depth of the seas! 5 Till each, and all kingdoms are those of the Lord, And nations are swayed by the rule of His word, Till tribes and all people triumphantly sing The praises of Christ, our once-crucified King! 281. Isaiah XLII. 1—4. Tried with pain and bitter travail, Leaves His Father's glorious throne. Sinner yield thy grateful heart. 4 Though thy lamp be "dimly burning," Love from Thee will He recall: Shall the work begun receive. 282. Seaman's Hymn. P.M. WHEN through the torn sail the wild tempest is streaming, When o'er the dark wave the red lightning is gleaming, Nor hope lends a ray the poor seaman to cherish, We fly to our Maker-" Help, Lord! or we perish !" 2 Oh Jesus! once tossed on the breast of the billow, Aroused by the shriek of despair from Thy pillow, Now seated in glory, the mariner cherish, Who cries in his danger-" Help, Lord! or we perish!" 3 And oh, when the whirlwind of passion is raging, When hell in our heart his wild warfare is waging, Arise in Thy strength, Thy redeemed to cherish, Rebuke the destroyer-" Help, Lord! or we perish !" 283. God is Love. C.M. COME ye that know and fear the Lord, And raise your thoughts above; Let every heart and voice accord To sing that " God is love." 2 This precious truth His word declares, And all His mercies prove; Jesus the Gift of gifts appears To shew that-" God is love." 3 Behold His patience bearing long With those who from Him rove; Till mighty grace their hearts subdues, To teach them-" God is love." 4 The work begun is carried on By power from heaven above; And every step from first to last, Declares that-" God is love." 5 O may we all, while here below, Till warmer hearts, in brighter worlds, 284.
