THE praises beflowed upon David by sacred writ ers, and the calumnies heaped upon him by some others of a different deno^ mination, frongly, and, I think, naturally engaged my curiosity to search into his hi/lory, in order to satisfy myself in his real character. And as this search engaged me in an exaEi and particular enquiry into all parts of his life and conduBt I fou?id them filed with a surprizing fries of rare incidents, and interefing events j and such as either supplied or suggesed a great variety of curious 'observations
