And may the music of Thy name Refresh my soul in death. 111. Confirmation. LOOK down, O Lord, and on our youth Bestow the gifts of heavenly grace, And let the seed of sacred truth Find in each heart a fruitful place. 2 The cross that mark’d their infant brow, May it a faithful emblem prove, That they shall keep their sacred vow, And walk as children of Thy love. 3 Now, in the strength of power divine, O may they all, with glad accord, In holy covenant combine, And join themselves to Christ the Lord. 4 Thy sons and daughters, may they be Confirm’dand strengthen'dby Thy grace; And safe thro' life, preserv'd by Thee, In heaven behold Thee face to face. 112. Worthy the Lamb. C.M. COME, let us join our cheerful songs With angels round the throne ; Ten thousand thousand are their tongues, But all their joys are one. 2 “ Worthy the Lamb that died,” they cry, “ To be exalted thus ;" “Worthy the Lamb,” our lips reply, “ For He was slain for us.' 3 Jesus is worthy to receive Honour and power divine ; And blessings more than we can give, Be, Lord, for ever Thine. And air, and earth, and seas, And speak Thine endless praise. 5 The whole creation join in one, To bless the sacred name And to adore the Lamb. 113. Creation. C.M. Creation's work complete ! And worshipp'd at His feet. In perfect order stood; God saw that all was good. For sin has ruin'd all ; A gracious Father's call. 4 Yet, Lord, bring back the reign of peace, Let brighter days begin ; From folly and from sin. Though once with vengeance curs'd ; And let a second sabbath shine, As glorious as the first. 114. Salvation. C.M. 'Tis pleasure to our ears ; A cordial for our fears. Be unto the Lamb for ever ! Hallelujah! praise the Lord. 2 Buried in sorrow and in sin, At hell's dark door we lay, But we arise by grace divine, To see a heavenly day. Glory, &c. To Thee the praise belongs, Glory, &c. The spacious earth around; While all the armies of the sky Conspire to raise the sound. Glory, &c. 115. The Sabbath. WHEN the sabbath bells are pealing Welcome are their sounds to me; Music on the night air stealing, Hath not sweeter melody. 2 Cheering then the heart of sadness, In each tone such sweetness dwells ; Grief is almost turn'd to gladness, By the sound of sabbath bells. 3 Day of rest! with what emotion Doth the lone heart turn to Thee ! Child of toil! with what devotion Should'st thou bend to Deity! 4 Let thoughts of Christ thy faith inspire, When thou kneel'st to heaven in pray'r; Ask whate'er thy wants require, Ask it humbly, God is there. 116. Part of Psalm LXXII. L.M. JESUS shall reign where'er the sun Does his successive journeys run; Till moons shall wax and wane no more. 2 People and realms of every tongue Dwell on His love with sweetest song ; Their early blessings on His name. Death and the curse are known no more ; Peculiar honours to our King ; From ev'ry swelling tide of woes, 2 There is a place where Jesus sheds The oil of gladness on our heads : It is the blood-stained mercy-seat. And friend holds fellowship with friend : And time and sense seem all no more ; 118. Psalm CXVIII. L.M. SOVEREIGN of worlds, display Thy power, Be this Thy Zion's favour'd hour; And point the nations to the skies. 2 Set up Thy throne where Satan reigns ; On Afric's shores, on India's plains ; And make the universe Thine own. 3 Go, messengers of Christ, proclaim Salvation thro' Emmanuel's name; To India's clime the tidings bear, And plant the rose of Sharon there. 119. Psalm CXIX. C.M. To keep His statutes still ! To know and do His will ! |
