overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood : and it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there Are THREE that bear record in heaven, THE FATHER, THE WORD, and THE HOLY GHOST: and THESE THREE are ONE. And there are three that bear witnesss in earth, the Spirit and the Water, and the Blood : and these three agree in one. If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater ; for this is the witness of God which he testified of his Son. He that believeth on the Son of God, hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God, hath made him a lyar ; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

The Gospel. St. John X. 11- 16. TESUS said: “I am the good shepherd : the J good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth ; and the wolf cątcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. I am the good shepherd and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father : and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shal hear my voice ; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd."

The Epistle.- i Peter ï. 21_ 25. TOR even hereunto were ye called : because

T Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth : who, when he was reviled, reviled not again ; when he suffered, he threatened not ; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously : who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sin, should live unto righteousness : by whose stripes ye were healed. For ye were as sheep going astray ; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

JUBILATE. THE THIRD SUNDAY AFTER EASTER.

The Gospel. St. John xvi. 16— 23. TESUS said to his disciples: “ A little while and J ye shall not see me; and again, a little while, and and ye shall see me ; because I go to the Father."

Then said some of his disciples among themselves : " What is this that he saith unto us, a little while, and ye shall not see me; and again, a little while and ye shall see me ; and, because I go to the Fa. ther?” They said, therefore, “ What is this that he saith, a little while ? we cannot tell what he saith." Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them: “ Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, a little while, and ye shall not see me ; and again, a little while, and ye shall see me? Verily, verily, I say unto you, that ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice : and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. A woman, when she is in travail, hath sorrow, because her hour is come ; but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. And ye now, therefore, have sorrow; but I srill sce you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you."

The Epistle. 1 Pet. ii. 11- 20. T EARLY beloved, I beseech you, as strangers V and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul: Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles; that, whereas they speak against you as evil-doers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake; whether it be to the king, as supreme; or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. For so is the will of God, that with well-doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men. As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of malicious. ness, but as the servants of God. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. The Gospel. John xvi. 5 -15. TESUS said unto his disciples : “Now I go my

way to him that sent me ; and none of you ask.

@th me, whither goe'st thou ? But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart. Nevertheless, I tell you the truth ; it is expedient for you that I go away, for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come he will reprove the world of sin, and of rightcousness, and of judgment : Of sin ; because they believe not in me : Of righteousness ; because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more ; Of judgment; because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit, when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth : for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak; and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me; for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath, are mine : therefore said I, that he shall take of mine and shall shew it uinto you."

The Epistle. James i: 16- 21.
O not err, my beloved brethren. Every good

gift, and every perfect gift, is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness neither shadow of turning. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first-fruits of his creatures. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. Wherefore, lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the ingrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

ROGATE. THE FIFTY SUNDAY AFTER EAsten.

The Gospel. John xvi. 23 30. “TTERILY, verily, I say unto you, whatsoever ye

V shall ask the Father in my name, he shall give it you. Pitherto have ye asked nothing in my name. Ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs; but the time cometh when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father. At that day ye shall ask in my name ; and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you: for the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world. Again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.” His disciples said unto him: "Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb. Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee. By this we believe that thou camest forth from God.".

The Epistle. James i. 22- 27. DE ye doers of the word, and not hearers only,

D deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man behoiding his natural face in a glass : For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father, is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
