WHE But when He came the second time, The fires, that rush'd on Sinai down And as on Israel's awe-struck ear The trump, that Angels quake to hear, So, when the Spirit of our God It fills the Church of God; it fills Come Lord, come Wisdom, Love, and A men. ANGELUS (or WHITSUN HYMN). L. M. JOHANNES SCHEFFLER, Med. Doc., Breslau. 1657. COME, gracious Spirit, heavenly Dove, With light and comfort from above; Be Thou our guardian, Thou our guide, O'er every thought and step preside. The light of truth to us display, Lead us to holiness, the road, Lead us to God, our only rest, 84. SPIRIT of God, that moved of old Upon the waters' darken'd face, Come, when our faithless hearts are cold, And stir them with an inward grace. Thou that art Power and Peace combined, All highest Strength, all purest Love, The rushing of the mighty wind, The brooding of the gentle dove; Come, give us still Thy powerful aid, And urge us on, and keep us Thine; Nor leave the hearts, that once were made Fit temples for Thy grace divine: Nor let us quench Thy sevenfold light; But still with softest breathings stir Our wayward souls-and lead us right, O Holy Ghost, the Comforter!
