Anoint and cheer our soiled face
With the abundance of Thy grace.
Keep far our foes, give peace at home:
Where Thou art guide, no ill can come.

113. COME, Holy Ghost

, eternal God, That through Thy help, God's praises may Proceeding from above,

Resound in every place. Both from the Father and the Son,

O Holy Ghost, into our minds The God of peace and love ;

Send down Thy heavenly light; Visit our minds, into our hearts

Kindle our hearts with faithful zeal, Thy heavenly grace inspire ;

To serve God day and night. That truth and godliness we may

Our weakness strengthen and confirm ; Pursue with full desire.

For, Lord, Thou know'st us frail ; Thou in Thy gifts art manifold,

That neither devil, world, nor flesh, By them Christ's Church doth stand: Against us may prevail. In faithful hearts Thou writ'st Thy law,

The Finger of God's hand. According to Thy promise, Lord, Thou givest speech with grace;

And clothe Thy priests with righteousWithin Thy temple when they stand,

To teach the truth, as taught by Thee, Saviour, like stars in Thy right hand

Let all Thy Church's pastors be. Wisdom and zeal and faith impart,

Firmness and meekness from above, To bear Thy people in their heart, And love the souls whom Thou dost love;

So, when their work is finish'd here,

They may in hope their charge resign; So, when their Master shall appear,

They may with crowns of glory shine.

115. IN token that thou shalt not fear We print the cross

upon thy brow, And mark thee His alone, In token that thou shalt not fear

Christ's conflict to maintain,
But ’neath His banner manfully

Firm at thy post remain ;
In token that thou, too, shalt tread

The path He travell’d by;
Endure the cross, despise the shame,

And sit with Him on high;
Thus outwardly and visibly

We seal thee for His own; And may the brow that wears His cross

Hereafter share His crown.
