113. COME, Holy Ghost
, eternal God, That through Thy help, God's praises may Proceeding from above,
Resound in every place. Both from the Father and the Son,
O Holy Ghost, into our minds The God of peace and love ;
Send down Thy heavenly light; Visit our minds, into our hearts
Kindle our hearts with faithful zeal, Thy heavenly grace inspire ;
To serve God day and night. That truth and godliness we may
Our weakness strengthen and confirm ; Pursue with full desire.
For, Lord, Thou know'st us frail ; Thou in Thy gifts art manifold,
That neither devil, world, nor flesh, By them Christ's Church doth stand: Against us may prevail. In faithful hearts Thou writ'st Thy law,
The Finger of God's hand. According to Thy promise, Lord, Thou givest speech with grace;
A - men,
To watch and pray, and never faint;
By day and night their guard to keep, To warn the sinner, cheer the saint,
Nourish Thy lambs, and feed Thy sheep.
So, when their work is finish'd here,
They may in hope their charge resign; So, when their Master shall appear,
They may with crowns of glory shine.
POUR out Thy Spirit from on high;
Lord, Thine assembled people bless; Graces and gifts to each supply, [ness.
And clothe Thy priests with righteousWithin Thy temple when they stand,
To teach the truth, as taught by Thee, Saviour, like stars in Thy right hand
Let all Thy Church's pastors be.
Firmness and meekness from above,
115. IN token that thou shalt not fear We print the cross
upon thy brow, And mark thee His alone, In token that thou shalt not fear
Christ's conflict to maintain,
Firm at thy post remain ;
The path He travell’d by;
And sit with Him on high;
We seal thee for His own; And may the brow that wears His cross
Hereafter share His crown.
